The Crofton Flight on the Kennet & Avon Canal is closed until Friday 16 December for new lock gates to be fitted on Crofton Top Lock (55), Sam Farmer Lock (58), Lock 59 and Lock 60. The towpath will also be closed while the work is being done.
There is an open invitation from British Waterways to see the work in progress at Crofton and there is an open day planned at Lock 60 opposite the Crofton Pumping Station and beside Wilton Water on Saturday 10 December 2011.
Members of the works team will guide visitors around the lock and explain the work they are doing there. During the day the gates will be being craned out of the lock and the new gates will be on-site for people to look at.
The site will be open from 11am to 3.30pm and their will be walks on the hour from 11am until 3pm. The walks will last about 45 minutes.
Visitors can park in the Crofton Pumping Station car park and the Crofton Pumping Station, café and shop will be open. There are toilets at the Pumping Station.
