Cotswold Canals Trust are winners with People's Millions bid

The Cotswold Canals Partnership will be able to create a heritage trail and improve the towpath alongside the canal to create better access to Stroud town centre thanks to the supporters who voted for their bid for £60,000 from the ITV People's Millions Lottery programme.

Their success was announced last night (Thursday 30 June 2011) and Kim Chester, Development Manager for The Waterways Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us – this win shows just how much the restoration of the canal means to people. The improvements will help to provide better walking routes to and from the town centre and the heritage trail will help to bring Stroud’s amazing history to life.”

Trust members will help clear and surface the towpath and the route will be signposted by traditional mile markers — and other volunteers will make podcast recordings that capture the spirit of the district through stories about its past and vision for its future.
